Windsurfing: Etang de Leucate - France
Wind Direction: nw
Wind Stength: 35/50
Surf / Sea State: choppy
Air Temperature: 29
Sea Temperature: 20
Weather: sunny
Max Speed: 30.75 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered:

Another good night at the Etang at Les Pecheurs and with the wind hopefully easing a little and with a couple of speedsailers from the Netherlands supposed to be there we headed to La Franqui at 9 for breakfast in the square :) Still force 8,thats three days in a row :( so we headed off to the beach at Leucate and the shelter of the cliffs and spent a lovelly couple of hours just reading and relaxing, taking in the sun with Mag even going for a swim in the sea :)
Then went back to La Franqui to check the conditions but only one out so went back to the Etang for dinner and there were loads of freeriders out on small boards and 4.2,s.There is an island 500 m out and the wind funnels through which forms waves in the channel but there is some flat water behind the island ,so was hoping for some speed !!! So I rigged the 5.2 and set off with the slalom board with winds still gusting to 50 mph !!!
Etangs are crap on slalom gear, too shallow and full of weed and never wear a shortie as you cut your legs on the shells in the mud :( You need a small freeride board with a raked back fin.I managed one long run across the Etang but there was very little water behind the island and the wind was very up and down, one minute nothing a gale the next !!!!
So thats 3 days of force 7 to 9 !!! no good for man nor beast as you have to sail 2/3 miles upwind to get to the speed course in 50 mile off shore winds is not for me as we saw a kitesurfer lose his gear out to sea and the lifeguard dose,nt seem keen on rescuing you !!!
So gave up after half an hour cut to peices and went for a ride on the bikes :)
